Training Grants

MediCluster Fellowships represent a transformative step in the training of healthcare professionals in Portuguese-speaking African countries. More than just short-term programmes, these personalised fellowships are designed to respond to the specific needs of local healthcare systems, ensuring real and sustainable impact.

These programmes aim to strengthen the skills of healthcare professionals, equipping specialists with the knowledge, tools and resources necessary to lead innovative initiatives in their communities.

They are aimed at young medical specialists from Angola, Cape Verde and Mozambique who are dedicated to tackling challenges relevant to human health. The internships take place in institutions of international excellence, with a duration defined according to each area of specialisation.

In addition to practical training, the programmes ensure continuous support through mentoring, leadership development and scholarships to support the professional careers of alumni.

Through strategic partnerships with leading Portuguese hospitals, fellows have access to:

  • Advanced clinical and technical training in more than 40 medical and non-medical specialities;
  • Practical experience in leading hospitals in Portugal, with individualised mentoring;
  • Content tailored to the realities and challenges of African health systems;
  • Integration into hospital missions and exchanges, ensuring that knowledge is applied in the field.

Over the next three years, MediCluster plans to train more than 200 healthcare professionals, creating a robust network of alumni that will serve as a driving force for the continuous sharing of knowledge and best practices.

The expected impact is clear:

  • Higher quality of care, reducing dependence on foreign professionals;
  • Structural strengthening of PALOP health systems, increasing their resilience;
  • Professional and institutional autonomy, ensuring that knowledge remains in the countries of origin;
  • Multiplier effect – each trained professional multiplies their learning in every consultation, every hospital and every community.

MediCluster Scholarships are thus an unequivocal commitment to the future: investing in people to transform health systems, uniting Portugal and the PALOP countries in a solid cooperation network, and promoting a more equitable, inclusive and sustainable future for all.
