PALOP EXPERTSAÚDE: first professionals have already completed training in Portugal

23 September 2025

The PALOP EXPERTSAÚDE programme marks the arrival in Portugal of the first health professionals from Angola, Cape Verde and Mozambique for specialised hospital training.

The project, developed by the Associação Ensinar Saúde Norte in partnership with four Portuguese public hospitals, plans to train 90 health professionals by 2026, including doctors, nurses and diagnostic and therapeutic technicians.

In the first few months, a cooperation protocol was signed with the Baptista de Sousa Hospital in Cape Verde, which allowed the integration of the first participants: four doctors and two nurses. This was followed by the arrival of professionals from the Manuel Pedro Azancot de Menezes Maternal and Child Hospital in Angola, who began their three-month experience in Portuguese hospitals.

The continuous training of doctors and nurses has been a central focus of the programme, serving as an essential pillar for strengthening the quality of clinical response in the PALOP countries. Throughout this first year, the project has already demonstrated its transformative potential, creating conditions to improve access to healthcare and strengthen the response capacity of hospitals in the countries involved.

With the first professionals now trained, the programme is entering a consolidation phase, creating a network of specialists who are better prepared to respond to local clinical challenges and contribute to more robust and sustainable health systems.
